Location portraiture - work diary

Within this shoot, we looked into location portraiture using minimal depth of field and wide angle. We completed two attempts at location portraiture as we evaluated the first attempt to see what we could improve and then completed the second attempt with a little more knowledge than the previous attempt. I think that this shoot was quite hard as I didn't quite understand it. Once I got some more information from my teacher about the task we were given, it helped me to figure out what was required - even though it was still quite hard. I think that this shoot was one of the harder techniques to do because it required a lot of knowledge on what works well. I think there were elements from both attempts that were good and bad but it was easier to understand in the second attempt because I'd had experience prior to it.

This was one of my best photographs from the two attempts that I thought was accurate in what the task was asking for. I think that this photograph is good due to the fact that is capture's the model's face expression as she is in focus compared to the blurred background. The blurred background demonstrates the use of minimal depth of field as the model is closest to the camera and is the one in focus compared to the background. I think that using a long corridor was a good way to allow for minimal depth to be shown effectively.

This was one of my worst photographs within the two shoots that we attempted for location portraiture. I think that this was one of my worst because of the amount of building that can be seen within the shot. The fact that there is lots going on in the background pulls the audience's attention away from the model herself. The composition of the model is something that I like about the shot - having the model standing on the right third of the space makes it work better. The only issue with the model is the place in which her body is cut off. It has been cut off at an awkward place and makes her look unprofessional.

Overall, I think that the attempts to capture location portraiture were good. If I were to develop my photographs further, I would create an image bank for location portraiture prior to doing the attempts. This would give me a better understanding of what was asked for the task.
